**Officially Licensed US Navy VFA-14 Tophatters Sticker — Strike Fighter Squadron Vinyl Sticker**
VFA-14 Tophatters — the oldest and boldest. This squadron has been flying off carriers since before most countries had an air force. September 1919. You do the math.
VFA-14, the “Tophatters,” is the United States Navy’s oldest continuously active aviation squadron, established in September 1919 at NAS San Diego. The squadron set a carrier landing record of 127 traps in a single day aboard the Navy’s first aircraft carrier, USS Langley, in 1926. The Tophatters flew combat missions during World War II from USS Ranger during the Allied invasion of North Africa, destroying 16 enemy aircraft, and later participated in the Leyte Campaign and the first carrier strikes on Tokyo from USS Essex. The squadron transitioned through the F4U Corsair, F3H Demon, and F-4 Phantom II before receiving the F-14A Tomcat in 1974, becoming one of the first Tomcat squadrons at NAS Oceana alongside VF-32. VF-14 flew combat sorties during the invasion of Grenada, operations off Lebanon, and Operation Desert Storm. The squadron was redesignated VFA-14 in 2001, transitioning to the F/A-18E Super Hornet, and remains active today at NAS Lemoore with CVW-9.
