Description
**Officially Licensed US Navy VF-151 Vigilantes (F-4 Phantom) Sticker — Fighter Squadron Vinyl Sticker**
VF-151 Vigilantes — the squadron that flew the very last F-4 Phantom off a carrier deck. When they left USS Midway on 24 March 1986, an era ended. Permanently.
VF-151, the “Vigilantes,” was originally established as Fighter Squadron 23 (VF-23) on 6 August 1948 at NAS Oceana. The squadron flew F4U Corsairs with Air Group Two aboard USS Midway and deployed for three Korean War combat cruises, flying F9F-2 Panthers and supporting the amphibious landings at Inchon on 15 September 1950. The Vigilantes transitioned through the F2H Banshee, F3H Demon, and F4D Skyray before receiving the F-4B Phantom II in January 1964. VF-151 made five combat deployments to Vietnam, flying nearly 1,500 combat sorties on the first cruise alone during Operation Rolling Thunder. During the squadron’s fifth combat cruise aboard USS Midway, VF-151 flew 2,100 combat sorties — more than any other Navy fighter squadron in FY1970. The squadron remained with Midway through the late Cold War era, making three Indian Ocean deployments during the Iran hostage crisis. On 24 March 1986, VF-151 made the last-ever F-4 Phantom flight from an aircraft carrier.
