Description
**Officially Licensed USMC VMFA-314 Black Knights Sticker — Marine Fighter Attack Squadron Vinyl Sticker**
VMFA-314 Black Knights — first Marine squadron to fly the F-4 Phantom, first to fly the F/A-18 Hornet, first to fly the F-35C Lightning II in combat. If it’s a new fighter, the Black Knights fly it first. And then they break records with it.
Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 314 (VMFA-314), the “Black Knights,” was commissioned on 1 October 1943 at MCAS Cherry Point, originally nicknamed “Bob’s Cats.” Flying F4U Corsairs during the Battle of Okinawa, the squadron earned the Presidential Unit Citation with 14 aerial kills. In 1957, VMFA-314 officially became the “Black Knights” while flying the F4D Skyray. In 1961, they became the first Marine squadron to transition to the F-4B Phantom II, and during four years of combat in Vietnam from Chu Lai and Da Nang, they flew over 25,000 combat hours. In December 1982, VMFA-314 became the first tactical squadron in the Navy or Marine Corps to receive the F/A-18 Hornet. As the first Marine F/A-18 squadron into Bahrain for Desert Shield, the Black Knights flew 814 combat sorties during Desert Storm — more than any other Navy or Marine Corps squadron. In 2022, the Black Knights made history again as the first operational F-35C Lightning II squadron to deploy aboard an aircraft carrier.
