Description
**Officially Licensed USMC VMA-242 Slashers Sticker — Marine Attack Squadron Vinyl Sticker**
Promptus Vindicare — Swift Victory. VMA-242 brought the Skyhawk’s speed and precision to the fight when and where it mattered most.
VMA-242, the “Slashers,” traces its origins to 1943 when it was activated as Marine Torpedo Bombing Squadron 242, flying TBF/TBM Avengers in the Pacific. After WWII service across the Northern Solomons, Saipan, Tinian, and Iwo Jima, the squadron was deactivated in 1945. Reactivated on October 1, 1960, at MCAS Cherry Point as VMA-242 flying the A4D Skyhawk, the Slashers deployed to NAS Key West during the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962, maintaining strip alert until the Soviet withdrawal. In September 1963, VMA-242 embarked for duty with the 1st MAW at MCAS Iwakuni, Japan, before returning to Cherry Point and transitioning to the A-6A Intruder — becoming VMA(AW)-242 and the first Marine Corps squadron equipped with the groundbreaking all-weather attack aircraft.
