Officially Licensed US Navy VFA-147 Argonauts Sticker — Legends of the Fleet Since ’67

Named for Jason’s band of mythical heroes — and they’ve been living up to it ever since.

VFA-147 “The Argonauts” was commissioned on February 1, 1967, as the U.S. Navy’s first A-7 Corsair II squadron at NAS Lemoore, California. By December of that same year, they were flying the first-ever A-7 combat missions over North Vietnam from USS Ranger. After transitioning to the F/A-18C Hornet in 1989, the Argonauts became the Navy’s first operational night attack squadron to employ NAV FLIR pods and night vision goggles. They flew combat patrols over Los Angeles after September 11th, then launched strikes into Afghanistan against Taliban and Al-Qaeda forces during Operations Enduring Freedom and Anaconda. Named the Navy’s top F/A-18C squadron in 2007, they transitioned to the F/A-18E Super Hornet and continued racking up deployments. VFA-147 now flies the F-35C Lightning II as the Navy’s first operational (non-training) F-35C squadron and the first forward-deployed F-35C unit, based at MCAS Iwakuni, Japan with CVW-5. Their callsign is “Jason” — and like the myth, they always bring it home.
