**Officially Licensed US Navy VA-23 Black Knights Stickers — Attack Squadron Vinyl Sticker**
VA-23 Black Knights — a squadron forged from Naval Reserve roots in Akron, Ohio, that earned its combat stripes flying Skyhawks off Ticonderoga in the jungles and seas of Vietnam. From reserve duty to real-world strikes on Khe Sanh.
VA-23, the “Black Knights,” originated as Reserve Fighter Squadron VF-653, established in December 1949 at NAS Akron, Ohio. The squadron activated for service in 1951, relocating to NAS Alameda, California, and underwent multiple redesignations — VF-151 in 1953, VA-151 in 1956, and finally VA-23 in February 1959. Flying the FJ-4B Fury and later the A-4 Skyhawk, the Black Knights became a core component of Carrier Air Wing 19 aboard USS Ticonderoga. During the 1968 deployment, VA-23 participated in Operation Formation Star — the American naval show of force in the Sea of Japan following North Korea’s seizure of USS Pueblo. The squadron then flew combat strikes in support of the besieged Marines at Khe Sanh, delivering critical close air support during one of the most desperate battles of the Vietnam War. VA-23 was disestablished on 1 April 1970 after two decades of service spanning the transition from propeller-driven fighters to jet-age attack aircraft.
