Description
**Officially Licensed US Navy VA-146 Blue Diamonds Sticker — Attack Squadron Vinyl Sticker**
VA-146 Blue Diamonds — the squadron that dropped the Navy’s first laser-guided bomb in combat and whose Executive Officer, CDR James Stockdale, became one of the most famous POWs in American history. Precision was in their blood from day one.
VA-146 was established on 1 February 1956 at NAS Miramar, California, originally flying F9F-8 Cougars as part of Air Group 14. Initially nicknamed the “Blacktails” for their tail markings, the squadron adopted the “Blue Diamonds” name in the late 1950s. After transitioning through FJ-4B Furies and A-4 Skyhawks, VA-146 deployed extensively to Vietnam, where the squadron’s Executive Officer CDR James Stockdale was shot down on 9 September 1965, enduring years of captivity and earning the Medal of Honor. In December 1968, the Blue Diamonds re-equipped with the A-7B Corsair II, and in December 1971 became the first Navy squadron to employ a laser-guided bomb in combat — a revolutionary advancement in precision strike warfare. VA-146 earned a Presidential Unit Citation on USS Constellation’s final Vietnam combat cruise. Redesignated VFA-146 in 1989, the Blue Diamonds became the first fleet squadron to receive the F/A-18C Night Strike Fighter. The squadron amassed over 92,000 mishap-free flight hours — 22 consecutive years without a Class A mishap — and today flies the F/A-18E Super Hornet from NAS Lemoore with CVW-17.
