Official VMM-262 Iron Fist 2023 Patch — Flying Tigers, Forged in the Pacific

VMM-262 “Flying Tigers” is a Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron flying the MV-22B Osprey out of MCAS Futenma, Okinawa, Japan, under MAG-36 and the 1st Marine Aircraft Wing. Iron Fist is an annual bilateral exercise between the United States Marine Corps and the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force designed to strengthen interoperability, amphibious capabilities, and alliance readiness in the Indo-Pacific. The Flying Tigers have been forward-deployed in Okinawa since 1992, making them one of the most operationally ready squadrons in the Pacific. VMM-262’s lineage dates to 1951, with combat deployments spanning Vietnam, Desert Storm, and OIF. The squadron transitioned from the CH-46E Sea Knight to the MV-22B Osprey in 2013 — retiring the last Pacific-based Phrog — and has since deployed in support of humanitarian operations including Typhoon Haiyan (Operation Damayan) and the 2015 Nepal earthquake (Operation Sahayogi Haat). This 2023 Iron Fist patch commemorates the Flying Tigers’ role in strengthening the U.S.-Japan alliance.
