VMM-163 Evil Eyes Sticker — Those Eyes Have Seen Everything

Painted on the nose since ’65, feared by the enemy ever since.

VMM-163 “Evil Eyes” is a Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron flying the MV-22B Osprey out of MCAS Miramar, California under MAG-16 and the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing. The squadron’s iconic painted eyes have been a trademark since October 1965, when the intelligence officer recommended painting menacing eyes on squadron aircraft to unsettle the enemy in Vietnam — originally called “Genie Eyes” after the TV show, they were quickly renamed “Evil Eyes” by the ground units they supported. The squadron flew over 2,000 flight hours in just ten days during the Battle of A Shau, rescuing 190 survivors under heavy anti-aircraft fire, with 21 of 24 aircraft suffering major damage. Originally commissioned in 1951 as HMR-163, the Evil Eyes transitioned from the CH-46 Sea Knight to the MV-22B Osprey in 2011 and have deployed worldwide with multiple MEUs ever since. In 2001, HMM-163 executed the longest amphibious assault in American military history during Operation Enduring Freedom.

Perfect For: VMM-163 Evil Eyes Marines and veterans, MV-22 Osprey community, MCAS Miramar squadrons, 3rd MAW personnel, Vietnam-era rotary wing veterans, and anyone who knows those eyes mean business.
