From the beaches of Kaneohe Bay to the far reaches of the Indo-Pacific, VMGR-153 keeps the force fueled and moving.
Marine Aerial Refueler Transport Squadron 153 (VMGR-153), known as “Hercules,” is one of the Marine Corps’ newest KC-130J Super Hercules squadrons. Reactivated in January 2023 at MCAS Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii under MAG-24 and 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, VMGR-153 provides air-to-air refueling, assault support, close air support, and reconnaissance across the Pacific. But the squadron’s lineage stretches all the way back to 1942, when it was commissioned as VMJ-153 and served with the South Pacific Combat Air Transport Command during World War II, moving over 15 million pounds of supplies and evacuating more than 20,000 casualties throughout the Pacific Theater. Today, the Hercules squadron supports the Marine Littoral Regiment and stands ready for humanitarian response — as they proved during the 2023 Maui wildfire relief operations.
