Electronic Attack Squadron 140 (VAQ-140) “Patriots” is a United States Navy electronic warfare squadron based at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, Washington. The Patriots are one of the Navy’s frontline electronic attack squadrons, operating the EA-18G Growler — the most advanced airborne electronic attack platform in the world. VAQ-140 is assigned to Carrier Air Wing Seven (CVW-7), deploying aboard aircraft carriers to provide critical electronic warfare support to the strike group.

VAQ-140 traces its lineage through the evolution of Navy electronic warfare, having previously operated the legendary EA-6B Prowler before transitioning to the far more capable EA-18G Growler. The Patriots’ mission encompasses the full spectrum of electronic warfare: suppression of enemy air defenses (SEAD), escort jamming, standoff jamming, and electronic surveillance. In combat, the Growler’s advanced jamming pods and HARM missiles blind and destroy enemy radar and communications systems, clearing the way for strike aircraft to deliver their ordnance on target. The Patriots have deployed repeatedly to combat zones in the Middle East, providing the electronic attack umbrella that protects carrier air wing strikes.
