The Vanguards of MALS-27 sustain Marine aviation operations from the forward edge of the Indo-Pacific, keeping the rotary wing and tiltrotor aircraft of the 1st Marine Aircraft Wing mission-capable from Okinawa and beyond. This officially licensed patch represents the Marines who maintain and supply aircraft at the tip of the spear.
Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 27, the Vanguards, provides intermediate-level maintenance and aviation logistics for Marine aviation units in the Western Pacific. Operating from MCAS Futenma and other forward locations, MALS-27 Marines perform component repair, avionics maintenance, supply chain management, and quality assurance for the aircraft that make up the 1st Marine Aircraft Wing’s forward-deployed combat power. The Vanguards ensure that Marine aviation can sustain high operational tempo across the vast distances of the Pacific theater.
