US Army 498th Medevac Patch
Dust Off — the 498th ran medevac in Vietnam when every LZ was hot and every flight was a gamble.
The 498th Medical Company (Air Ambulance) — callsign “Dust Off” — conducted helicopter medevac operations during the Vietnam War, evacuating wounded soldiers from combat under fire. Constituted in 1941 and activated at Fort Ord, California, the 498th earned its combat reputation flying UH-1 Hueys into hot landing zones where the only way out was up. The Dust Off crews of the 498th saved countless lives at extraordinary personal risk.
