Marine Wing Headquarters Squadron 3 (MWHS-3) “Eagles” is the headquarters element of the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, based at MCAS Miramar, California. The mission of MWHS-3 is to provide administrative and supply support for the 3rd MAW Headquarters — the command element that oversees all Marine aviation operations on the West Coast, including MAG-11, MAG-13, MAG-16, MAG-39, and MACG-38. Originally activated on November 10, 1942, at MCAS Cherry Point, the squadron deployed to the Pacific during WWII and has been redesignated multiple times through the decades. MWHS-3 has deployed to Kuwait and Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom since 2003, rotating with MWHS-2. The 3rd MAW is a critical component of I Marine Expeditionary Force, and MWHS-3 is the nerve center that keeps the wing running — from communications and administration to the planning and coordination that enables hundreds of aircraft to support the MAGTF.
