VMFA-314, the Black Knights, have been at the cutting edge of Marine Corps fighter aviation since their commissioning in 1943 at MCAS Cherry Point. Originally known as “Bob’s Cats” flying Corsairs in the Pacific, the squadron became the Black Knights in 1957 and has been first to every major platform since — first Marine squadron on the F-4 Phantom, first on the F/A-18 Hornet, and first Marine Corps operational F-35C Lightning II squadron in 2020. Flying from MCAS Miramar with MAG-11 and 3rd MAW, they deploy with the Navy’s Carrier Air Wing Nine. In Desert Storm, they flew more combat sorties than any other Navy or Marine Corps squadron. They were the first to conduct combat strikes with the F-35C against Houthi targets in Yemen. This 2021 sticker captures the Black Knights during their historic F-35C transition era.
