Marine Helicopter Squadron One (HMX-1) is the Presidential helicopter squadron, responsible for providing helicopter transport for the President of the United States aboard “Marine One.” Established in 1947 at Marine Corps Air Station Quantico, Virginia, HMX-1 was originally created to develop helicopter assault techniques and tactics for the Marine Corps. The squadron’s mission expanded to include executive transport when President Dwight D. Eisenhower became the first president to fly aboard a Marine helicopter in 1957. This throwback design preserves a classic-era HMX-1 insignia from the squadron’s storied history.
