HMM-161 “Greyhawks” was commissioned on January 15, 1951, making it one of the earliest medium helicopter squadrons in Marine Corps history. The Greyhawks pioneered vertical envelopment tactics and flew the HUS-1 Seahorse and CH-46 Sea Knight across decades of service, deploying to Vietnam, the Persian Gulf, Somalia, and the Global War on Terror. HMM-161 was instrumental in developing the ship-to-shore helicopter assault doctrine that became the foundation of Marine amphibious operations. This sticker captures the Greyhawks in their CH-46 Sea Knight configuration — before the transition to the MV-22B Osprey and redesignation as VMM-161.
