**Officially Licensed USMC HMM-363 Lucky Red Lions Sticker — Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron Vinyl Sticker**
The Lucky Red Lions — from atomic tests in the Nevada desert to combat assaults in the jungles of Vietnam to heavy-lift operations over Iraq. HMM-363 has done it all.
HMM-363, the “Lucky Red Lions,” was activated on June 2, 1952, at MCAS Santa Ana, California, as HMR-363 in response to the demands of the Korean War. Flying the Sikorsky HRS-1, the squadron participated in Operation Desert Rock — the first atomic test to use ground troops. The Red Lions became the first West Coast helicopter unit to receive the Sikorsky H-34 and deployed to Vietnam in August 1965, flying UH-34Ds from Qui Nhon in support of MAG-36. Close ties with Republic of Korea forces developed during Operation Flying Tiger. March 26, 1968, was the most tragic day in squadron history when a rocket attack wounded five Marines, and the subsequent medevac helicopter crashed, killing seven including the commanding officer. Redesignated HMH-363, they flew CH-53A/D Sea Stallions, deployed to Somalia for Operation Restore Hope, and supported OIF from Al Asad. Now VMM-363 flying MV-22B Ospreys from MCB Hawaii.
