1st Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment (1/2) is an infantry battalion based at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, under the 2nd Marine Division. The battalion has been in the thick of it since World War II, fighting through the Pacific island-hopping campaigns, Korea, and every major conflict since. In the Global War on Terror, 1/2 deployed multiple times to Iraq and Afghanistan, conducting combat operations in some of the most contested areas including Fallujah and Helmand Province. The battalion is known for producing hard, disciplined infantry Marines who close with and destroy the enemy through fire and maneuver — the fundamental mission of the Marine rifle battalion.
