Strike Fighter Squadron 106 (VFA-106) is the U.S. Navy’s East Coast Fleet Replacement Squadron for the F/A-18 Hornet and F/A-18E/F Super Hornet, based at NAS Lemoore, California. As the Gladiators, VFA-106 is responsible for training every newly winged strike fighter pilot and weapons systems officer before they join operational fleet squadrons. The squadron’s mission is foundational to naval aviation — without VFA-106’s rigorous training pipeline, the carrier air wings simply cannot generate combat-ready aircrews. Their gladiator insignia represents the arena of aerial combat these aviators are being forged to dominate.
