Marine Forces Japan (MARFOR Japan) is the Marine Corps component of United States Forces Japan, responsible for coordinating and conducting Marine Corps operations throughout Japan. Based primarily at Camp Smedley D. Butler on Okinawa and with elements at MCAS Iwakuni and other installations, MARFOR Japan represents the forward-deployed presence of the Marine Corps in the most strategically vital theater on the planet. From maintaining readiness for crisis response to strengthening the alliance with the Japan Self-Defense Forces through bilateral training and exercises, MARFOR Japan Marines live and train at the tip of the spear every single day. This patch represents the Marines who serve on the front line of the Pacific — far from home, always ready, and standing watch so the rest of the force has time to respond.
