MALS-16 “Immortals” is the Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron for Marine Aircraft Group 16, based at MCAS Miramar, California, under the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing. This “Forward” patch represents MALS-16’s deployed configuration — when the logistics Marines push forward to expeditionary airfields and shipboard operations to provide intermediate-level maintenance, aviation supply support, and ammunition logistics to MAG-16’s squadrons in theater. Originally activated in 1952, MALS-16 made history during Desert Storm as the first MALS to deploy, the first MALS in combat operations, and the first to deploy aboard an Aviation Logistics Support Ship. They’ve supported operations from Vietnam to Somalia to Iraq, keeping rotary-wing and tiltrotor aircraft mission-ready in the harshest environments on earth. When MALS-16 goes forward, the aircraft follow.
