Description

**Officially Licensed US Navy VF-126 Adversary Sticker — Fighter Squadron Vinyl Sticker**

VF-126 Bandits — the Navy’s West Coast bad guys, trained to fly like the enemy so the fleet could learn to beat them. If you went through Miramar in the ’70s or ’80s, these were the guys trying to kill you in training.

VF-126 was originally established as VA-126 on 6 April 1956, initially flying the troublesome F7U-3 Cutlass before transitioning to the F9F-8 Cougar and FJ-4B Fury. Redesignated VF-126 on 15 October 1965, the squadron shifted from light attack training to adversary operations at NAS Miramar, California. Flying A-4 Skyhawks chosen for their MiG-like maneuverability and smokeless trail, VF-126 became the Pacific Fleet’s premier aggressor squadron. In 1981 the unit adopted the nickname “Bandits” and a new insignia to reflect its adversary mission. The squadron later added T-2 Buckeyes, F-5E Tiger IIs, and the specially built F-16N Fighting Falcon to its stable, providing dissimilar air combat training alongside the famed TOPGUN school. VF-126 also conducted out-of-control flight training and instrument training for F-14, F-4, and A-6 fleet replacement crews. The squadron was disestablished on 1 April 1994 as post-Cold War drawdowns eliminated active-duty adversary billets.
