Description
**Officially Licensed US Navy VA-95 Green Lizards Sticker — Attack Squadron Vinyl Sticker**
VA-95 Green Lizards — the Intruder squadron that sank an Iranian frigate during Operation Praying Mantis. When the Sahand opened fire, the Lizards sent her to the bottom.
VA-95, the “Green Lizards,” is one of the most storied attack squadrons in Navy history. The third squadron to bear the designation was established on April 1, 1972, at NAS Whidbey Island, flying the A-6E Intruder. The Green Lizards saw combat action during the final stages of the Vietnam War, providing escort during Operation Frequent Wind — the evacuation of Saigon — and striking Cambodian targets during the SS Mayaguez rescue in 1975. Their most dramatic action came during Operation Praying Mantis in April 1988, when VA-95 A-6Es sank the Iranian frigate Sahand with Harpoon missiles and laser-guided Skipper bombs after it fired on squadron aircraft, then crippled the frigate Sabalan with a precision laser-guided bomb hit. VA-95 was disestablished on November 18, 1995.
