As a floating drydock and repair facility, Emory S. Land can service nuclear-powered submarines at forward-deployed locations, keeping the submarine force operationally ready without returning to home port shipyards. The ship has deployed to Guam, Diego Garcia, the Mediterranean, and other strategic locations, extending the reach and endurance of the Navy’s submarine fleet.
