Carrier Air Wing 17 (CVW-17) is one of the United States Navy’s carrier air wings, currently embarked aboard USS Nimitz (CVN-68) and based at NAS Lemoore, California. CVW-17 comprises multiple strike fighter squadrons flying the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet, an electronic attack squadron with the EA-18G Growler, a carrier airborne early warning squadron with the E-2D Advanced Hawkeye, and helicopter maritime strike and sea combat squadrons flying the MH-60R and MH-60S Seahawk. Together, these squadrons form the most powerful tactical aviation formation in the world — a self-contained air force capable of projecting power anywhere on the globe from the flight deck of an aircraft carrier. CVW-17 has deployed repeatedly to the Western Pacific, Middle East, and Mediterranean, conducting combat operations, freedom of navigation operations, and crisis response missions. The air wing’s strength lies in its integration — fighters, jammers, surveillance aircraft, and helicopters working together as a single unit to dominate the battlespace.
