Description
Officially Licensed US Navy VP-1 Screaming Eagles P-3C Orion Patch — Patrol Squadron One P-3 Orion Embroidered Patch
Screaming Eagles — the P-3 Orion era.
Patrol Squadron One (VP-1) “Screaming Eagles” spent decades operating the legendary Lockheed P-3C Orion before transitioning to the P-8A Poseidon, and this patch commemorates the squadron’s distinguished service during the P-3 era. For generations of VP-1 aircrew, the Orion was the aircraft that defined their careers and the tool with which they hunted submarines, tracked surface contacts, and gathered intelligence across every ocean on the planet.
The P-3C Orion was the backbone of the Navy’s maritime patrol force for over four decades. A four-engine turboprop aircraft based on the Lockheed Electra airliner, the Orion was purpose-built for long-endurance overwater missions. VP-1 crews would fly missions lasting 10-12 hours, patrolling thousands of square miles of ocean while hunting Soviet (and later Russian and Chinese) submarines with sonobuoys, magnetic anomaly detectors, and torpedoes. The P-3C’s ability to loiter for hours at low altitude made it the preeminent submarine hunter of the Cold War era. VP-1 flew the Orion with distinction from multiple forward-deployed locations before eventually transitioning to the Boeing P-8A Poseidon.
This patch celebrates VP-1’s legacy with the venerable P-3C Orion.
Perfect For: VP-1 Screaming Eagles P-3 veterans, P-3C Orion enthusiasts, Cold War maritime patrol collectors, and naval aviation heritage fans.
