Description
**Officially Licensed US Navy VF-1 Wolfpack Sticker — Fighter Squadron Vinyl Sticker**
VF-1 Wolfpack — the very first F-14 Tomcat squadron. They flew the first Tomcat cruise, covered the fall of Saigon, and scored the only F-14 air-to-air kill of the Gulf War. The wolf’s head insignia is registered in the Library of Congress. That’s how iconic it is.
VF-1, the “Wolfpack,” was established on 14 October 1972 at NAS Miramar alongside VF-2, forming the first two operational F-14 Tomcat squadrons in the Navy. The squadron received its first F-14As on 1 July 1973 and made the Tomcat’s first operational deployment aboard USS Enterprise in September 1974. In April 1975, VF-1 Tomcats flew combat air patrols over Saigon during Operation Frequent Wind, the final evacuation of American personnel from Vietnam — the F-14’s first combat operations. By 1984, VF-1 had accumulated an impressive 22,000 flight hours without a single accident. On 6 February 1991, during Operation Desert Storm, VF-1’s LT Stuart Broce and CDR Ron McElraft downed an Iraqi Mi-8 helicopter with an AIM-9 Sidewinder — the F-14’s only air-to-air kill of the war. When USS Ranger was decommissioned in 1993, VF-1 was left without a carrier and was disestablished on 1 October 1993.
