**Officially Licensed US Navy VA-85 Black Falcons Sticker — Attack Squadron Vinyl Sticker**
VA-85 Black Falcons — the squadron that sank Libyan warships in the Gulf of Sidra and lost a crew over Lebanon. Over 40 years of service, from TBM Avengers to A-6 Intruders.
VA-85, the “Black Falcons,” was called to active duty as reserve squadron VA-859 on February 1, 1951, and redesignated VA-85 on February 4, 1953. The squadron flew Skyraiders before transitioning to the A-6 Intruder, becoming one of the Navy’s premier all-weather attack squadrons. During Vietnam, the Black Falcons’ CO was shot down and captured in 1968, spending five years as a POW in Hanoi. In December 1983, a VA-85 A-6E was shot down during a retaliatory strike against Syrian positions near Hammana, Lebanon — LT Mark Lange was killed and LT Bobby Goodman was captured. In March 1986, the Black Falcons struck Libyan warships in the Gulf of Sidra, sinking a Combattante II missile craft and a Nanuchka corvette. VA-85 was disestablished on September 30, 1994, after over 40 years of distinguished service.
