Description
**Officially Licensed US Navy VA-164 Ghost Riders Sticker — Attack Squadron Vinyl Sticker**
VA-164 Ghost Riders — the Skyhawk squadron that lost four pilots in the devastating USS Oriskany fire of 1966, then went right back to war.
VA-164, the “Ghost Riders,” was established on September 1, 1960, and became one of the most combat-tested A-4 Skyhawk squadrons of the Vietnam War. Flying from USS Oriskany, USS Hancock, and USS Bon Homme Richard, the Ghost Riders flew seven combat deployments to Southeast Asia. During the Cuban Missile Crisis in October 1962, the squadron’s A4D-2s were made nuclear-weapon ready for launch. In 1966, four VA-164 pilots were killed in the catastrophic fire aboard Oriskany. The squadron’s final 1967 deployment with CVW-16 was the Navy’s costliest of the war — losing ten aircraft and five pilots to enemy action. VA-164 later participated in Operation Linebacker and Operation End Sweep before disestablishment on December 12, 1975.
