Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron (H&HS) at MCAS Beaufort, South Carolina, provides critical service support to all units aboard the installation — including firefighting, military police, public affairs, and the unglamorous but essential aircraft recovery section. MCAS Beaufort, known as “Fightertown,” is home to MAG-31 under the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing, hosting multiple F/A-18 Hornet squadrons and F-35B Lightning II training squadrons (VMFAT-501 and VMFAT-502). The “Swamp Fox” identity pays homage to the South Carolina Lowcountry where the air station is located — a region steeped in Revolutionary War history and famous for its marshlands, humidity, and resilient character. Aircraft recovery is one of those jobs that nobody thinks about until something goes very wrong on the flight line, and then these Marines are the first ones on scene.
