Description
**Officially Licensed HMX-1 Nighthawks Sticker — Marine Helicopter Squadron One Vinyl Sticker**
HMX-1 — the squadron that flies Marine One. When the most important person in the world needs a helicopter ride, the Nighthawks answer the call.
Marine Helicopter Squadron One (HMX-1), the “Nighthawks,” was established on December 1, 1947, at Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia, as an experimental unit tasked with testing and evaluating military helicopters when rotary-wing flight was still in its infancy. HMX-1 holds the distinction of being the first helicopter squadron in the Marine Corps. In 1957, the squadron earned its most prestigious mission — direct helicopter transport of the President of the United States — when President Eisenhower needed a faster alternative to motorcades. Today, HMX-1 operates the iconic “White Top” VH-3D Sea Kings, VH-92A Patriots, and VH-60N White Hawks for presidential and VIP transport, along with MV-22B Ospreys. Every member passes a Yankee White security background check. Headquartered at MCAF Quantico with over 800 Marines, HMX-1 is the largest permanently formed aircraft squadron in the Marine Corps.
