Description
**Officially Licensed USMC HMM-265 Dragons Sticker — Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron Vinyl Sticker**
The Dragons of HMM-265 — the first operational CH-46 Sea Knight squadron in the Fleet Marine Force. From Helicopter Valley to Desert Storm to East Timor, the Dragons have answered every call.
HMM-265, the “Dragons,” was commissioned on October 1, 1962, at Marine Corps Air Facility New River, North Carolina. After initially flying the UH-34, the squadron made history in June 1964 when it became the first operational FMF squadron to receive the Boeing Vertol CH-46A Sea Knight. In Vietnam, the Dragons flew from Marble Mountain Air Facility, supporting major operations including Hastings — where the tragic events at LZ Crow on July 15, 1966, led to the loss of five aircraft and thirteen Marines in what became known as “Helicopter Valley.” The squadron supported Desert Shield/Storm, Operation Desert Fox, and helped end the civil war in East Timor during Operation Stabilize. Now VMM-265, the Dragons fly MV-22B Ospreys from MCAS Futenma, Okinawa, serving as the aviation combat element of the 31st MEU.
