Description

**Officially Licensed USMC VMM-363 Red Lions Patch — Marine Tiltrotor Squadron Embroidered Patch**

VMM-363 Lucky Red Lions — from Corsairs to Sea Stallions to Ospreys, this squadron has been hauling Marines into the fight since Korea. Seventy years of rotors, and counting.

VMM-363, the “Lucky Red Lions,” was activated on 2 June 1952 as Marine Helicopter Transport Squadron 363 (HMR-363) at MCAS Santa Ana, California, answering the demands of the Korean War. The squadron flew the Sikorsky HRS-1 and participated in Operation Desert Rock, the first atomic test to use ground troops. As HMM-363, the Red Lions deployed to Vietnam in August 1965 with UH-34D Seahorses, conducting troop insertions south of Da Nang and supporting Operation Flying Tiger with Republic of Korea forces. The squadron transitioned to the CH-53A Sea Stallion and became HMH-363, later becoming the first Marine unit to receive the CH-53D in October 1972. The Red Lions deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, flying 848 hours in a single month at Al Asad. HMH-363 was deactivated in May 2012 and redesignated VMM-363, transitioning to the MV-22B Osprey. The squadron is now based at MCB Hawaii under MAG-24.
