VMM-264 was originally activated on 30 June 1959 and built a distinguished record through the Cuban Missile Crisis, the Dominican Republic intervention, Beirut peacekeeping, Hurricane Katrina relief, and multiple combat deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. The Black Knights were the last east coast squadron to transition from the CH-46 Sea Knight to the MV-22 Osprey, and in February 2011 piloted the aircraft that broke the V-22 community’s 100,000-flight-hour milestone.
