Description

**VMGR-252 Cherry Patch — Marine Aerial Refueler Transport Squadron Pilot-in-Command Patch**

You’ve earned your cherry — this patch marks the moment a VMGR-252 Marine becomes a Pilot-in-Command on the KC-130. In Otis, that’s a big deal.

VMGR-252, known as “Otis,” is the oldest continuously active squadron in Marine Corps aviation history, formed on June 1, 1928. Based at MCAS Cherry Point, North Carolina, under MAG-14 and 2nd MAW, the squadron flies the KC-130J Super Hercules. This “Cherry” patch is a tradition marking new Pilots-in-Command — a milestone achievement recognizing a Marine aviator’s qualification to command a KC-130 aircraft and crew. VMGR-252 has pioneered aerial refueling firsts including the first helicopter aerial refueling using a tanker drogue system in 1965, and during Desert Storm provided over 10 million pounds of fuel across 937 combat sorties. The squadron has supported operations across six continents spanning nearly a century of continuous service.
