VMFA-251 “Thunderbolts” is a Marine fighter attack squadron based at MCAS Cherry Point, North Carolina, under MAG-14, 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing. The Thunderbolts are transitioning to the F-35C Lightning II — the carrier-capable variant of the Joint Strike Fighter — making them one of the first Marine squadrons to operate from Navy carrier decks in the F-35. “Lucifer’s Messenger” captures the squadron’s aggressive spirit.
