The New York Air Unit operated from Islip, Long Island, providing aerial surveillance and interdiction support across the northeastern United States. Unlike their counterparts in the desert Southwest, New York Customs aviators conducted missions in some of the most complex airspace in the world, tracking smuggling activity along the Atlantic coast and coordinating with multiple federal agencies in one of the most densely populated regions in the country.
