Air America was the CIA’s covert airline, operating throughout Southeast Asia from the 1950s through 1975. Disguised as a civilian charter company, Air America flew missions that ranged from routine cargo transport to some of the most dangerous operations of the Vietnam War era — inserting operatives into denied territory, resupplying remote outposts in Laos, evacuating personnel under fire, and supporting the CIA’s secret war in the Laotian highlands. Air America pilots and crew members were a mix of military veterans and civilians who flew into places that no official military unit could go, often without recognition or acknowledgment. This patch was originally produced for a reunion of Air America pilots and crew, preserving the memory of an organization whose full story is still being told.
