USS Okinawa (LPH-3) was commissioned in 1962 as an amphibious assault helicopter carrier of the Iwo Jima class. Okinawa also served as a recovery ship for multiple Apollo space missions and participated in numerous humanitarian operations before her decommissioning in 1992.
