VMM-261 “Raging Bulls” operates the MV-22B Osprey out of MCAS New River, North Carolina, under MAG-26, 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing. The Raging Bulls transitioned from the CH-46E Sea Knight to the Osprey, bringing decades of medium-lift helicopter experience into the tiltrotor community. Originally commissioned as HMR-261 on September 10, 1951, the squadron has deployed in support of every major Marine Corps operation from Vietnam through the Global War on Terror, including Desert Storm, Somalia (Operation Restore Hope), Haiti, and multiple MEU deployments. VMM-261 continues to provide assault support and crisis response capability as part of the 2nd MAW.
