Based at MCAS Cherry Point, North Carolina, under MAG-14 and 2nd MAW, the Moonlighters operated the Intruder’s sophisticated DIANE weapons delivery system to find and strike targets in conditions that grounded conventional attack aircraft. Their transition to the F/A-18D Hornet as VMFA(AW)-332 continued the night and all-weather strike mission with FLIR targeting pods and GPS-guided weapons.
