Description
**Officially Licensed USMC VMA-513 Flying Nightmares Sticker — Marine Attack Squadron Vinyl Sticker**
VMA-513 Flying Nightmares — the squadron that scored the first-ever radar kill of an enemy jet at night and became the first Marine Corps unit to fly the AV-8A Harrier. Sixty-nine years of pure nightmare fuel for America’s enemies.
VMA-513, the “Flying Nightmares,” was first commissioned as VMF-513 on February 15, 1944, at Marine Corps Auxiliary Field Oak Grove, North Carolina, flying the F6F Hellcat in World War II combat operations at Saipan, Guam, and Okinawa. Redesignated as a night fighter squadron (VMF(N)-513) during the Korean War, the Nightmares flew F7F Tigercats and F4U-5N Corsairs out of Pusan West, providing the sole night fighter defense for all UN forces — and making history with the first radar-guided night kill of an enemy jet. In Vietnam, they were the only Marine jet fighters in country for five months. In 1971, VMA-513 became the first operational Marine Harrier squadron, later deploying with AV-8B Harrier IIs to Desert Storm, Afghanistan, and Iraq. The squadron was decommissioned on July 12, 2013, after 69 years of service, with its legacy carried on by VMFAT-502.
