Description
Officially Licensed US Navy VQ-3 Ironman Squadron Patch — The Voice of the Triad
Because when the President needs to talk to the boomers, VQ-3 makes the call.
VQ-3, the Ironmen, fly the E-6B Mercury — the U.S. Navy’s airborne command post for the nation’s nuclear deterrent. Operating under the TACAMO (Take Charge and Move Out) mission, the Ironmen provide survivable, reliable communications to the Navy’s fleet ballistic missile submarines as part of the strategic nuclear triad. If the worst day ever comes, VQ-3 is the squadron that ensures the order gets through. Based at Tinker Air Force Base, Oklahoma, the Ironmen maintain 24/7 readiness to launch and establish communications with submarine forces anywhere in the world. This is one of the most critical and least publicized missions in the entire Department of Defense.
Perfect For: VQ-3 Ironmen aircrew and personnel past and present, E-6B Mercury community members, TACAMO veterans, and anyone who understands that strategic deterrence depends on assured communications.
