Officially Licensed USMC VMA-212 Devil Cats Squadron Patch — Marine Attack Squadron 212 Embroidered Patch
Devil Cats — from Guadalcanal to the jet age, VMA-212 always had claws out.
Marine Attack Squadron 212 (VMA-212), the “Devil Cats,” traces its lineage to March 1, 1942, when it was activated as Marine Fighting Squadron 212 (VMF-212), the “Hell Hounds,” at Marine Corps Air Station Ewa, Hawaii. The squadron earned its legendary reputation during World War II, deploying to the South Pacific in Grumman F4F Wildcats and fighting through the Guadalcanal campaign as part of the famed Cactus Air Force, earning two Presidential Unit Citations. During the Korean War, the squadron adopted the “Devil Cats” name and a new insignia designed by Roy Irwin, depicting a Devil Cat clutching a serpent on a red shield. VMF-212 flew close air support for the 1st Marine Division during the Battle of Chosin Reservoir from aboard USS Bataan and became one of the first land-based squadrons to operate from Kimpo Airfield near Seoul, flying 18,257 combat missions over the course of the war. The Devil Cats went on to fly the F4U Corsair, AD Skyraider, FJ-4B Fury, A-4 Skyhawk, F-8 Crusader, F-4 Phantom II, and F/A-18 Hornet across a distinguished combat history spanning World War II, Korea, Vietnam, and decades of forward deployments. This officially licensed patch honors the Devil Cats’ enduring legacy.
Perfect For: VMA-212 and VMFA-212 Devil Cats and Lancers veterans, Marine attack aviation historians, Guadalcanal and Korean War aviation collectors, Cherry Point and Iwakuni Marines, and anyone who honors the combat heritage of Marine Corps fighter and attack squadrons.
