VFA-211 “Fighting Checkmates” (formerly VF-211) is a U.S. Navy strike fighter squadron flying the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet out of NAS Oceana, Virginia, as part of Carrier Air Wing 11. The Checkmates trace their heritage to 1948 and have flown Corsairs, Demons, Crusaders, Phantoms, and Tomcats through Korea, Vietnam, and the Global War on Terror. This embroidered patch features the classic Checkmates insignia with “Brutus” — their iconic bulldog mascot.
