Officially Licensed US Navy HSC-2 Fleet Angels Squadron Patch — Embroidered Patch

The Navy’s First and Finest

The Fleet Angels carry a legacy that stretches back to the very beginning of Navy helicopter aviation. HSC-2’s squadron patch represents one of the oldest helicopter lineages in the United States Navy — a unit that traces its roots to 1948, when the Navy established its first dedicated helicopter squadrons. Today, as the East Coast Fleet Replacement Squadron for the MH-60S Seahawk, HSC-2 continues to produce the naval helicopter crews who keep the fleet flying.

HSC-2 carries the proud traditions and name of the original HC-2 “Fleet Angels,” which was established as HU-2 on April 1, 1948, at NAS Lakehurst, New Jersey — one of the Navy’s first two helicopter squadrons. Over its original 29-year existence, the Fleet Angels conducted an astonishing 2,318 rescues and achieved a list of naval helicopter firsts including the first MEDEVAC, the first all-weather day/night detachment, and the first night autorotation to a flight deck. The current HSC-2 was reestablished in 1987 and adopted the Fleet Angels name in 1994, later transitioning to the MH-60S Seahawk in 2006. The squadron has supported operations from Desert Storm to Hurricane Floyd, where two aircrew members earned the Navy and Marine Corps Medal for saving over 250 lives.
