Official HSC-21 Blackjacks Go Navy Patches and Name Tags
Five detachments. Every ocean. The Blackjacks don’t just deploy — they scatter across the fleet.
HSC-21 “Blackjacks” is a U.S. Navy helicopter sea combat squadron based at NAS North Island, San Diego. Originally established as HC-11 “Gunbearers” in 1977 to provide logistics support to the Pacific Fleet, the squadron was redesignated HSC-21 in 2005. Flying the MH-60S Seahawk, the Blackjacks operate five expeditionary detachments that deploy aboard combat logistics ships, hospital ships, amphibious assault ships, and littoral combat ships — conducting vertical replenishment, search and rescue, anti-surface warfare, mine countermeasures, and medevac across every fleet area of responsibility.
