Official HMH-464 Condors Flightline Qual Shoulder Patches — Earning Your Place Among the Condors
The CH-53E Super Stallion is the most complex helicopter in the American military. Qualifying on its flight line is no small feat.
Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 464 (HMH-464) — the ‘Condors’ — flies the CH-53E Super Stallion from MCAS New River, North Carolina, under Marine Aircraft Group 29, 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing. The CH-53E is the Marine Corps’ heavy-lift helicopter, capable of carrying 16 tons of external cargo or 37 combat-loaded Marines — the largest and most powerful helicopter in the American military inventory. Maintaining the Super Stallion requires some of the most highly trained aviation maintainers in the Marine Corps, and these flightline qualification patches represent the Marines who have earned the right to work on the Condors’ flight line. Flightline quals on the CH-53E are particularly demanding because of the aircraft’s complexity — three engines, a seven-blade main rotor, a canted tail rotor, a sophisticated hydraulic system, and an airframe that demands constant attention. Each qualification level requires demonstrated knowledge and competence, from safe movement around the aircraft to performing maintenance tasks to inspecting completed work. These patches identify the Marines who have proven they can handle the demands of the -53 flight line.
Perfect For: HMH-464 Condors Marines past and present, CH-53E Super Stallion maintainers and crew, MAG-29 and MCAS New River personnel, flightline qualification holders, and anyone who has earned their quals on the -53.
