Marine Corps Base Hawaii (MCBH) at Kaneohe Bay is one of the most beautiful military installations in the world, situated on the windward coast of Oahu with stunning views of the Ko’olau Mountains and Kaneohe Bay. Despite its tropical setting, MCBH is a fully operational Marine Corps base that hosts thousands of Marines and their families, serving as the home of the 3rd Marine Regiment (now 3rd Marine Littoral Regiment) and multiple aviation squadrons.
MCBH Kaneohe Bay’s location makes it strategically vital for Pacific operations. The base provides rapid access to the vast Indo-Pacific theater, positioning its Marines as a ready force for any contingency from humanitarian assistance to combat operations. The installation features a full-length runway, extensive training areas, and the natural advantages of Hawaii’s diverse terrain for realistic military training. Marines stationed at Kaneohe Bay train in jungle, mountain, beach, and urban environments — all within range of the base. The installation also has deep historical significance: the first shots of the December 7, 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor were actually fired at Kaneohe Bay when Japanese aircraft struck the naval air station.
